As Historic Preservation Week in Decatur, plans are underway for a very popular fall event to return to our historic district. “We are excited to announce that The Taste of History Committee has set a date for the return of this popular event. Four of our historic venues will participate in this traditional progressive evening of cocktails and hors d’oeuvres,” said Laura Jahr committee member and The Staley Museum director.

Saturday, September 12 from 5pm to 8pm is the 2026 event date. The four participating venues will be The James Millikin Homestead, The Staley Museum, The Culver House and The Governor Richard J Oglesby Mansion and Museum. Each of these venues celebrate a significant figure in Decatur’s historic and storied past. Each venue will celebrate the evening with a signature drink and hors d’oeuvres.

Ticket information will be announced at a later date. This event is planned for adults age 21 and up. Non-alcoholic beverages will also be served.

• Culver House – John Culver: owned a monument business and created an electric company that became Ameren Illinois.
• Governor Oglesby Mansion – Richard Oglesby: US Senator, veteran, and the only three-time Illinois governor.
• James Millikin Homestead – James Millikin: a banker, who founded Millikin University.
• Staley Museum – A.E. Staley: operated the largest corn starch manufacturing plant, which became Tate & Lyle, now operated by Primient.
